Just so you know, dragonfruit looks a lot better than it tastes. I went to Vietnam, and everyone in my group was disappointed with dragonfruit. Just thought I'd burst the bubble now, before you go ahead and purchase it and have high expectations. I think it's alright, but it's very, very bland. And I was eating it fresh!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
Well, how do you like that! Bold, beautiful dragonfruit tastes bland. Then there's the durian – so uninviting with its rock-hard spikes and I'm told it smells like old gym socks, but tastes sublime. Go figure. Mother Nature has quite a sense of humor, no?
  • bitt · 7 months ago
yeah i've heard that too. sad but it will save me some money!

I'm really keen to eat more sea vegetables, but I can't seem to find a good supply over here...

You're right, there's so much to discover and taste. Tried persimmon for the first time this week and I'm hooked!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
Aren't you like right on the water in Cape Town? What about an Asian market? I betcha you'd find sea veggies there.

Ahhhhh, persimmon. One of my faves. Can only get them in the autumn here (which, I guess, it is on the other side of the planet). Enjoy while the season lasts!

Wow!! I didn't realize it was so many. How cool.
Let's see... I have yet to try like edible flowers and sprouted legumes.
    Just bought some e3Live.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
Mmm, edible flowers are lovely in salads. If you click on the link that says "Salads" under the header, you'll find a number of sprouted legume recipes. So easy.

Lemme know how you like the e3Live. Cherie Soria swears by it.

Nice to know there's so much variety available, isn't it? Helps to keep things fresh and fun so we don't get into a rut with our food choices.

    Still working on it!! :)

Thanks for the link to the High Raw book online. I love the Renegade Health Show!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
Hey, did you get to listen to Kevin's renegade roundtable call tonight with Paul Nison? He talked about Crohn's and food combining. The call will remain up for the next 24 hours, so let me know if you need the link to it.

I officially became a vegan Feb 2009. I cannot do complete raw food all the time, but I do try to have more fruits and vegetables daily. Great blog! I linked you :)
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
That's wonderful! You absolutely don't have to be 100% to reap the many benefits of raw, living foods.

Thank you. I'm glad you found your way here. Please, visit again.

    always enjoy reading your blog-
this one is super, since that is such a common question
and in my totally sad days i ate the same stuff all the time
and wondered about those 'poor' people who only just ate
    fruit & veggs
    hahaha!
here's to the remarkable variety living food offers-
    :)

LOL. Isn't that the truth! I used to live on cheeseburgers and fries. Eeeewww. Lots of variety there. I joke that my 3 food groups were dairy, sugar, and fat.
  • bitt · 7 months ago
i'm just getting into more sprouting of grains and legumes. i have trouble digesting them at times. thanks for the reminder of how broad our diet really is! if anything, mine has expanded, not become more narrow.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
Sometimes I'm amazed at the expansion. I was just saying that my 3 food groups used to be dairy, sugar, and fat. (*shakes head*)
  • Gena · 7 months ago
I have sampled from all of them indeed! And loved nearly all of them. I'm not into the exotic fruits, I admit (I hate durian) or algaes. But I love most everything!

    What an informative post!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
I do want to at least try a durian, but I'm super sensitive to smells so I dunno how that's gonna work out.

Really? Not a spirulina lover, eh? I can put it in a smoothie, but can't eat it straight like some people do. Blah!

Thanks for sending me the Raw Food ebook. I am having trouble opening it. Would you mind sending it again?

I like your food groups. Is there a poster (or something decorative) that lists them?
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
    Try this: High Raw ebook

Hmmm, a poster. Perhaps I'll have to design one. But, for now, they're just out of my head and onto my site. You can print them out if you like. And, of course, eat them. :D

Oh man! I can't believe you haven't tried okra. I used to love it any way it was cooked, especially breaded and fried. But then someone told me to try it raw, and I love it even more that way. It's so crunchy and juicy. Hope you like it.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 7 months ago
That's because you live in the deep south. We don't eat okra up here in the north. I had never even tried collards or turnip greens prior to 10 months ago. Going raw has definitely expanded my world (and palette).

Hello my dear friend, I have missed so much here. Work has kept me from doing much blogging but I had to stop by and see you. I thought of you the other day when I was making some raw soup carrot/ginger soup and later that day doing a mixed veggie green drink. I love this list because it give me ideas and lays it all out there. I chuckled when you said you had never eaten chard, kale, or turnip greens but now ate it every day. I too eat one or more every day. I'd go bonkers without my greens.

Also I agree with Pixywinks about raw okra. I never liked it cook. Too slimy but raw it is fabulous. So many veggies that I once ate cooks I now prefer raw. today I just made a raw tahini dip with cold pressed olive oil, garlic, sea salt and some other seasonings and diluted with water to the right consistency. Soooo good with raw zuke strips and celery.

A few of you were talking about durians and tropical fruits. When I lived in Oz I ate so MANY tropical fruits. They are my favorite as they are so "wet" and juicy and sweet and varied in flavor. I've had custard apple, sour sops, five star, lychees, mangos, durians, papaya (or paw paw), bread fruit, guava, and so many more. I miss them now. Although you can get many of them here in the southwest they are not ripe and taste horrible.

Oh you really got me going you dearheart, but you always do. And I love it. I am eating watermelon today. In about 3 minutes. Lol!! Sending you love and a big hug, Robin. :))

Hello my spirit sister-friend! Your absence has left a gaping hole in the blogosphere. I am glad to hear you are well, albeit very busy. I trust you continue to take time each day to recharge your batteries (and soul) with time spent in Nature.

I thought of you the other day as Maya and I were hiking. A couple of hawks caught a current and were just having a ball hang-gliding overhead. Such grace and beauty! I pulled out my Native American flute and spontaneously began to serenade them.

It is slowly warming up here. The earth is turning green once again. Soon the farmers markets will be open and I can eat fresh, just-picked local produce every day. I can't tell you how that excites me to no end!

    cyber kisses xxxxxxxxx!
