In The Raw: Sunshine-Delicious Winter Recipes

  • hanlie · 9 months ago
Oh that looks delicious! Citrus fruit is the best thing about winter for me! Although we can get them year round nowadays I make a point of waiting for winter.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
I'm starting to think citrus is the best thing about winter too! I am sooooooo ready for spring.
  • Pudget:Losing Weight OnABudget · 9 months ago
It all sounds so good. I am feeling a little jealous :)
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
No need to feel jealous, Pudget. Is citrus not in your budget?

I look forward to exploring your blog. Thank you for visiting In The Raw.

Oh man, that looks drool worthy!
My sunshine has been from the lemon tree that hangs over the back fence. Now it is in blossom, heavenly scent, my favorite !
    much love to you

But you get to live in SUNSHINE, my dear (even in the winter). I couldn't believe that video of you and Anthony and it's raining (gasp!) outside. What's that song? It never rains in California... False advertising.

How 'bout this one from our youth? Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet but the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat... Again, with the false advertising. :D

    xoxo!

Beautiful salads! Love the last one especially.

I'm in a winter slump. I've been eating salads and green smoothies.. but it's so cold that I'm not as into them as I am in the summer! I did really enjoy some fresh grapefruit juice last week though!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Keep eating those salads and green smoothies and watch the weight disappear, like magic!

I see you've been rather productive during your "winter slump." I snuck a peak at the new website. I like!

I keep telling you...enjoy this down time, cuz you're going to be one busy and in-demand lady shortly. I just know it.

Dear EarthMother, I had to chuckle over the oranges and our mothers. My mother also used to do this (before she had Alzheimers) and I loved the oranges in the middle of winter. And you are right about the grapefrut being soooooo sweet and good. I shamelessly tell you that I used to sit in a deliciously warm bath soaking while eating these tantalizing citrus fruits right from the box by the dozen. It was a true orgey for me!! LOLOL!! Juice ran down my face and all over my hands and into the tub. Now think about it, what better place to eat disgustingly juicy oranges than in the bath tub. You simply MUST try it before your boxes are empty!!! Plus you have citrus scented bath water. The whole experience is a thrill. Trust me on this one!!! LOL!! Hugs to you my wonderful vivacious friend. Robin. Oh PS: I've done the delcious mixed greens and fennel salad but never the cabbage one. I will have to try that it looks fascinating!! :) :)

I find pleasure in the fact that our Mothers sent us citrus in the winter, and our Dads were goofy guys who sang silly songs. Proof, that we are soul sisters, separated at birth! :D

I'm laughing out loud at the visual you've created here with you in the tub and your crate of citrus beside you. I PROMISE to take a grapefruit and orange bath this week. Actually, that sounds divine.

    xoxo!

Ohhhh!!!! The Florida citrus sounds amazing, gotta love mom!

I received a package in the mail yesterday as well. Thank you so much for "The Ultimate Live-Food Cookbook." I can't wait to try out one of the recipes!!!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
I know how much you love citrus on your salads. I'm starting to think it actually makes winter worthwhile. I mean, is there anything better than fresh-squeezed orange juice? Ahhhhhhhhh.

I think you'll enjoy Sergei and Valya. They possess a wisdom far beyond their years (much like you), and their recipes are simple and flavorful. Speaking of which...I suspect there's a recipe book in you, just waiting to be birthed – Durian Pudding, Watermelon Cake, Mangolicious Spinach Salad, Kiwi-Pomegranate Soup...hmmm? Food for thought. :D
  • Lauren · 9 months ago
Great salads! I love grapefruits and all citrus. My grandparents have a condo in FL they go to for the winter, I am going to call her and tell her to send me some ASAP! :)
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Absolutely! Get on that phone to Grandma right now. She'd be thrilled to send you some fresh citrus, I'm sure. You'd probably make her day.
  • Karen · 9 months ago
Love citrus! I was able to plant some this year! That recipe sounds great!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Ah, to live in a climate where you can plant citrus...paradise! I'm envious. I live in the arctic tundra. Enjoy!

    Earthmother!
I want to thank you for your very encouraging words on my blog today! Thanks so much. Also, have you changed your blog format ? I really love all the pictures, everything looks so fresh and delicious!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Thanks, April. I've been tinkering with the HTML template, in an attempt to open up the layout. Not so cramped together now. And, I've been running the photos larger than before.

I'll look forward to hearing where the Universe sends you this summer.

I'll look forward to exploring Spiritualitea.com.

I used to enjoy a cup of SpiritualiTEA, PuriTEA, HumiliTEA...there were others too, in the line created by Brigitte Mars. I never see them anymore. Wonder if she still makes them?
  • Gabchan · 9 months ago
Earthmother you do have a way with words:

"These seedless beauties are blushing red and dripping with sweetness."

I can feel my mouth watering in sweet delight!

Do you work for sunkiss? If not you should get a job in the marketing department..with slogans like these ones you would sell oranges by the cases. ;)

Love your recipes & colors: Purple and Orange...how vibrant!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Ah, you make me laugh, Gabrielle. Guess all my years spent in the wonderful world of advertising comes through in my writing. Oops.
  • Gabchan · 9 months ago
No way! Unexpected & funny! Hmmm. That's it. I'm changing careers to fortune teller.

    This looks absolutely delicious.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Liara Covert, what an extraordinary online moniker, I thought. And, then I visited your website and discovered that this is actually your name. How lovely! You should be on stage, Liara Covert. :D

I appreciate you coming by In The Raw.
  • Pixywinks · 9 months ago
Oh man. I LOVE the winter citrus. I actually stopped buying it at all in the summer. The Jamba Juice next to my house sells organic OJ, and it's the BEST thing on the menu. Taste like I'm streamlining sugar right over my tongue and down my throat. Such bliss! We have delicious Ruby Red Grapefruit here in TX too, and I practically live on them in the winter. Have you tried blending bananas in grapefruit juice? It's my favorite smoothie right now.

    Your salad recipes look amazing.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
You know, I only ever make green smoothies... BUT, today I am going to try a banana-ruby red. What an interesting combo. Thanks for the juicy tip.
  • Pixywinks · 9 months ago
I just polished off my morning grapefruit banana smoothie. Let me know if you like it.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Made my first (definitely not my last) banana-ruby red smoothie today. Shared it with Mom. We're both hooked. :D
  • Connie · 9 months ago
I am lucky enough to be able to pluck and eat or juice the ruby reds and tangeloes right off the trees in my dad's yard here in Florida, but I still look forward to the citrus season and mourn its end. I drink the grapefruit banana combo Lisa told me about daily. :)

    Juicy Blessings!
    Connie
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Ohhhh! I'm envious. I would be visiting Dad daily, Connie.

I was just telling Lisa that I only ever make green smoothies, BUT today, I'm trying a banana-ruby red. Mmmm.
  • Connie · 9 months ago
I don't even have to do that, he lives right around the corner and he picks them and brings them to me! :) I hope you like the smoothie, I just love them! I have run out of ripe bananas and feel empty without my "usual".
:( Had to settle for raspberry pineapple today.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
    Loving Dad!

I made my first (of many!) banana-ruby red smoothie today. Shared it with Mom. Talk about liquid sunshine!! It actually reminded me of a taste from my youth, but I can't quite place it. (Eee Gads! A food memory lost in the nether regions of my brain.) Mmm, better drink MORE to help the memory surface. :D
  • Connie · 9 months ago
I thought the same thing and think it might be a flavor of StarBurst candy! lol!
  • Denise Punger · 9 months ago
I appreciate your comments and wisdom on my blog...
Your oranges were probably harvested not to far away from where I live. I get these Oranges at the farmer's market and I have wondered about the quality of oranges they ship out. Sounds like you endorse them!? I may have to ship to my Northern relatives.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Me, me, me! You can ship to me, anytime.

I'm a little concerned what I'm gonna do when my 'stash' runs out. Serious withdrawal, no doubt. :D
  • Eight Women Dream · 9 months ago
All we have to say is "YUMMY" and we needed your food at our meeting last night. There is nothing like liquid sunshine in the form of a fruit in the middle of winter.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Seriously, if I could figure out a way to shoot this stuff right into my veins, I'd do it. It's been a loooooooong winter.

Hope you eight dreamin' women try a recipe or two at your next meeting. Thanks for stopping by In The Raw.
  • Evita · 9 months ago
Hi EarthMother, oh how I can relate! I have had it with winter too and long to be outdoors enjoying myself. But that will still have to wait.

I too have been enjoying citrus fruits, some from Florida, but they do not come to me nicely in a box ;) I have to pick through them in the store and wonder when they have been picked, how many miles they travelled and how fresh they are.

But I must say recently I bought some organic grapefruit for the first time and I have never tasted a grapefruit so sweet! No bitterness whatsoever!

I love the red cabbage recipe, lately we have been doing so good incorporating the cabbage into our meals, it feels great too health wise!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Let's boycott winter next year! It just seems like the older I get, the longer winter gets. Is it just me??? The only redeeming quality of winter is fresh Florida citrus! These were soooo juicy and sweet. I knew they were just-picked and shipped out immediately. Tasted nothing like what I get in the stores here.
  • Winona · 9 months ago
Yum! I've been craving citrus lately.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Careful! I do believe I'm developing a citrus habit. Can't go a day now without a fix. :D
  • punkrawklabs · 9 months ago
there is nothing better in the middle of winter!
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Ummm, unless it's a BIG slice of Mudslide Pie! :D
  • JackieJHB · 9 months ago
    Great recipes, thanks.
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
Hope you'll give 'em a try. Thanks for stopping by, Jackie.

YUM!! What a great gift to give!

We have been clementine eating maniacs of late. :-)
  • EarthMother - In The Raw · 9 months ago
It is a FANTABULOUS gift...until it runs out. :(

I must either hop a plane to Florida or bribe Mom for another gift. An early birthday present? Verrrry early! :D

Hey, I just posted an avocado recipe that's to die for!
